Bolzano & environs is especially well appreciated by visitors in spring-summer-autumn: the bathing lakes entice you to cool down and the hiking paths and bike trails draw you to being active. But winter is also an attractive season for discovering the surroundings!
Christmas Market Bolzano
The streets are filled with lighting and festoons made from fir branches, Christmas trees are put up and Christmas offers sweeten up the shopping. In Bolzano, the Christmas Market is located at Walther square. In addition, the Christmas markets in Merano, Bressanone, Vipiteno, Trento and the smaller markets in Ora, Egna and Caldaro are on offer too. As further tips for a trip we can recommend Tonwelt Thun, the Salewa Cube – the biggest climbing hall in Italy as well as the Ötzi Museum and the Merano Thermal Baths.
Walking in the sunshine and in the snow
In the valley there is usually no or only a very thin snow blanket and the temperatures can be quite mild during the day. So walks in the sun are a great opportunity to take in some fresh air and to switch off. Our tip: Castelfeder, a round trip of Caldaro Lake and the Frühlingstal (spring valley).
Up the mountains a thick blanket of snow invites you to go on walks with snow shoes.
Skiing, cross-country skiing and sledding in South Tyrol
