Tips for excursions in and around Cortaccia and Bolzano & environs

Tips for your holidays here with us:

Discover the surroundings during your holidays
  • Bletterbach Canyon – get a glimpse of this UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in the Dolomites. The canyon provides you with an insight into the history of the stone that is over 280 million years old. The geo path takes you on a journey through time into the Palaeozoic age and into the earth's Mesozoic era and the forest path brings you that bit closer to nature.
  • Haderburg also known as Salorno Castle, is a medieval castle ruin above Salorno. Since time immemorial it denotes the language barrier between the German and the Italian speaking Tyroleans. The castle grounds are quite impressive even though they are now uninhabited ruins. The middle age castle tavern is especially worth visiting.
  • In the regional capital of Bolzano you can visit the Ötzi Museum, Museion – a museum for modern art, the Museum of Natural Science, the Bolzano Dome, the fruit market, Walther Square with the statue of the Minstrels, Runkelstein Castle and the lively trade under the arches.
  • The Frühlingstal valley in bloom when in other places snow is still lying on the ground, and in the ice holes it is +4°C all year round, something that is a real treat in summer.
  • Reinhold Messner has left the mountains a memorial and erected 5 museums. The main museum is located in Sigmundskron Castle in Firmiano between Appiano and Bolzano: MMM – Messner Mountain Museum.
  • The Wine Road consists of several wineries which invite you to visit and also to taste. We can recommend the wineries Kurtatsch, Tiefenbrunner, Baron Widmann, Elena Walch and Haas. The Wine Museum is located in Caldaro.
  • Pure culture in castles, manors, cloisters, churches and chapels. The choice is vast! Worth recommending are the Museum of People Through Time in Cortaccia, the Museum of Popular Culture in Egna and MART – the Museum of Modern Arts in Rovereto.
  • Amongst the most beautiful gardens in Italy and amongst the top 5 in Europe, there are the Botanical Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano. The Touriseum is also located in the gardens. In the spa town the Kur promenade, Tappeiner trail and the Women's Museum invite you to linger.
  • At Renon you'll find the unique pyramids. You can travel to Renon either by car or take the cable car from Bolzano.
  • Art within nature… in Pochi di Salorno the artist Taty Borgogno has got her very own sculpture garden with more than 200 pieces, and Arte Sella will impress you too!
  • For those spending a summer holiday in Cortaccia, you should make sure that you plan a trip to Verona and take in an opera at the Arena in Verona.
  • Schloss Tirol Castle in Tirolo is certainly well worth a visit. Children and adults receive an insight into life in the castle and the history of our region! And there's a bird care centre right next door.
  • For a daily excursion we can recommend a trip to Lake Garda, to Venice or a round trip of the Dolomites.
Children love the Bletterbach Canyon - Haderburg Castle - pyramids in Renon - ice holes - Rastenbach Gorge and the high-rope climbing garden in Altenburg - minigolf - summer toboggan run in Predazzo - airplane museum in Trento - Ötzi Museum in Bolzano - Gilfenklamm Gorge in Vipiteno - model railway in Rablà - mines in Predoi and the theme parks Gardaland, Caneva World and Safari Park Natura Viva at Lake Garda.

You'll get a real adrenaline kick at the nearby high rope climbing garden, during a helicopter flight over South Tyrol, while rafting, .hang-gliding, downhill cycling, bungee jumping, ziplining and more. We would be pleased to advise you.
